CAUGHT IN COGS
BOY’S TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
ENTANGLED FOR 20 MINUTES (From Our Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, To-day. A small boy had a terrible experience at Waioeka yesterday, when one arm was caught in a cogwheel, and 20 minutes elapsed before he could be released. While milking was being done on the farm of Mr. J. G. Murray, farmer, Waioeka. his son, Gilbert, aged ten years, climbed up the side of the vat to get milk from the releaser. He slipped and fell on to the skim-milk pump, and a cogwheel caught his jersey, drawing his arm between the gears. Dr. Budd was immediately sent for, and despite his efforts to release the boy it was 20 minutes before he could be released from the pump. The arm was very badly lacerated, though no bones were broken. Dr. Budd immediately conveyed the injured boy to the public hospital.
