At the seven furlong post Troilus headed Ruby Ring, and he led along the back from Home Made, Ruby Ring and Sir Moment. Troilus and Home Made were on terms entering the straight, but Home Made nearly came to grief at the last obstacle. Troilus looked a certain winner 50yds from the post, but finishing resolutely, San Pedro beat him by half a length. Home Made was three lengths away

In the straight the first time Oriflamb made a bad jump at the first of the double and faded out of the contest, the order here being Jovial, Captain Sarto, Mainspring, Radiate, San Fera, Sir Wai and Matu. Mainspring was going nicely when he made a bad jump down the back. Jovial began to tire seven furlongs from home and Mainspring took up the running and led across the top from San Fera, Radiate, Jovial and Matu, and into the straight Radiate ran up behind the leader, with 'Matu making his effort. Over the last fence Radiate, San Fera and Matu were in a line, but from here Matu did best and won a great race by a length, with Radiate half a length in front of s San Fera. These were the only horses to finish. Time, 6.54 a record for the race. The Steeplechase All started in the Wellington steeplechase, for which Beau Cavalier was always a better favourite than Kawini, with the other Aucklander, Poun, at a great price. At the first fence Maunga fell, and a little further on Comical blundered badly and was : pulled up after going about six furlongs. Beau Cavalier was always in the lead up to this, being followed over the third fence by Pouri, Comical, Passin Through, Tuki and Kawini, the leader being three lengths clear. Over the stand double Beau Cavalier had command from Pouri, Passin’ Through, Kawini and Tuki. Going along the back the Beau-held a two lengths’ lead off Pouri, with Passin’ Through and Kawini right up and Tuki tailing off. At the five furlongs Pouri went up to Beau Cavalier and kept with him, although the favourite, giving a magnificent exhibition, outjumped him at every fence. Again in the straight Beau Cavalier gave Pouri a bump and nearly knocked him over, but recovered. Kawini was about 15 lengths behind this pair, with Tuki and Passin’ Through well back. Running down the back Beau Cavalier continued to jump beautifully, but at the seven he overreached and fell, leaving Pouri with a lead of 20 lengths over Kawini, while Tuki fell at the next fence. The race was all* over, for Pouri only had to s ( an< 3 up to win, and he did so, his winning margin being over 20 lengths. Kawini was a similar distance in front of Passin’ Through, these being the only horses to finish. Tuki injured a stifle when he fell, but the other horses and riders were unhurt. Had Beau Cavalier stood up the three Aucklanders would have filled the places. * TRENTHAM HURDLES Of £500; 1| miles I—GAZE. 10.2. W. Bowden 1 3 ABERFELDY. 10.5, T.
