BEEF MARKET FIRM

/ WESTFIELD VALUES Late rates for beef were fully maintained at Westfield to-day. Slightly below an average yarding came forward. Although drawn from most parts of the province, the offering of cattle comprised no exceptionally heavy prime steers. Fight to medium-weight young steers comprised the greater part of the yarding. The majority of the lines were only finished up to a point sufficient to qualify them for prime, extra choice butchers’ ewes not being largely in evidence. An indication of the mediocrity of the yarding can be taken from the fact that very few lines were worthy if special note. H. E. Reed, Waerenga, was responsible for the top price of the day with a line of welldone medium to heavy-weight cattle, *hich made from £l3 15s to £ls ss.
