LONDON WOOL SALES

FINER GRADES CHEAPER (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Reed. 9.33 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. At the wool sales 9,701 bales were offered, of which the Australian quota was 835, and the New Zealand 4,653. There was an excellent selection of slipes. There was a crowded attendance from all quarters, and a good tone prevailed. Continentals and Yorkshire were active. All Merino crossbred combings were firm at the May closing level. Finer grades of slipes did not maintain May’s abnormally high prices, and were about 5 per cent, cheaper. Other slipes were unchanged. New Zealands: Canterbury, 30d, top price; 27id, average; Matai Park, 21£d, 21d; Oxford, 42£d, 41d; Oakleigh, 27£d, 24£d; Hakataramea, 431 d, 40d. GRADE JERSEYS SELL FREELY (From Our Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Tuesday. At a sale of grade Jersey cattle at W. J. Hall’s Matatoki farm, (16 lots changed hands. The top price of ±.‘26 10s was paid by Air. L. A. Petersen, of Waihou, for a daughter of the champion sire Rose Beautiful Prince. The cows sold averaged £ls, the heifers £l6 16s, and the yearlings £5. MINING NEWS KURANUI. —The manager reports: The drive on Ross reef has been continued a further 7ft for the week, making a total of 33ft. The country has been much broken tip for the last few feet but is still of a very fair description for making values. The reef still averages about the same size and the quartz looks very promising, but no gold has been seen this week. The drive on Barry's reef has been extended 6ft for the week. The country being met with in this drive is of a most favourable description, being interlaced with mineral seams and flinties. The reef has opened out to about 2ft and the quartz broken from here looks very promising and should make gold at any time.
