GREAT WINTER DISPLAY OPENING TO-MORROW A revelation of the extent and richne;s of the resources of New Zealand will be given to the public to-morrow, when tha Auckland Winter Exhibition is opened by the Mayor, Mr. George Baildon. The exhibition, which is being held in the Central Wharf sheds, is now a scene of extraordinary industry, about 50 men being employed in rush work to have the courts completed. The exliibition having grown larger than ever before has made more extensive preparations necessary. The official opening will take pla«. e at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, and the Government will be represented by the Hon. A. D. McLeod. Minister cl Agriculture, who will give an address. Addresses will also be given bv Messrs. W. W. Massey, and J. A. C. Allum. the joint presidents. The general plan of the exhibition remains the same as it was last year. The space in the four sheds has been fully utilised, and a fifth shelter lias been made by putting a covering over the space between two of the sheds. The main entrance is through a court and steps leading into the auxiliary shed. It is here that the Auckland district courts will be placed. In the other sheds comprehensive exhibits will be displayed by New Zealand manufacturers. leading firms in the Dominion having taken space. UNIVERSAL APPEAL The wide range of the exhibition will assure a universal appeal to all sections of the producing and manufacturing community. The entries in the various classes compare well with those of previous years. A feature will be a special exhiibt of prize-winning Jersey and Friesian cows. At periods during the 10 days’ showing, there will be lectures and demonstrations by experts in these breeds. The poultry clubs are giving a tine display of prize birds, and tha fruit growers have arranged a special showing. Among tho most attractive exhibits arranged is that of the Agriculture Department. This has been designed to show the extent of the department's activities. It will furnish convincing proof of the excellent work that is being done by the department’s officers. LIGHTER SIDE TOO Exhibitions have their educational value, and make appeal to the sober side of all natures, but tradition demands that relief in the way of entertainment must be given. This fact has not been ignored by the officials who have arranged the Winter Exhibition. Provision has been made for excellent entertainment throughout the season. Each afternoon and evening moving pictures will be shown by the Government Publicity Department. Concert programmes have also been arranged, varying each day. Athletic displays will be given, and a minstrel company will be in attendance. Then, of course, comes the “side-show” section, which will be as attractive as such sections always are. Nothing has been overlooked, so the public will be both educated and amused.
