COLLISION WITH STEAMER THREE SEAMEN RESCUED (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 9.25 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. A collision between the Bay steamer Edina and the tug Hovell, at the entrance of the Y'arra River, resulted in the Hovell sinking instantly. Three of the crew were rescued. They were exhausted. The Edina, a small ship of 380 tons, has been running between Geelong and Melbourne for about the last half century. She was built at Glasgow in 1554, and was used as a troopship during the Crimean War. Later she was cut in two, one half coming to Melbourne for service in Port Phillip. Her owners are the Australian Steamships Proprietary, Ltd.
