FISHERMEN FOUND
landed on coast EXHAUSTED launch blown to sea Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, To-day. Alfred Allen and Percy James Bartholomew, the two fishermen who left the harbour on Friday in a motor launch and have since been missing, turned up last night at puniho. They had engine trouble and were driven out to sea, about 30 miles south of Cape Egmont. After remedying the trouble they made their way back and ran the launch ashore at about 9 p.m. They reached a farmer’s house in an exhausted state. The launch struck on the rocks and has probably broken n p. The two men have not yet returned to town. The weather is still very rough.
The two men put to sea on Friday on a trial run, taking only half a dozen gallons of benzine, and a few sandwiches as food. The launch was 30ft long, with a beam of Bft. It had only a light anchor and a short line, and a jib and small spit
The pilot launch went out on Sunday morning with the harbourmaster. Captain William Waller, on board, and has been out almost continuously since. Coastal steamers reported yesterday that no traces of the missing launch had been seen. A look-out was also kept at various places along the coast.
