EXCESS OF EXPORTS OF £12,121,343 LITTLE SHORT OF A RECORD The present favourable position of New Zealand’s overseas trading position is clearly indicated in Customs [returns for the 12 months ended June : 30, 1928. Exports valued at £55,619,285 show an excess over imports of ! £12,121,343, and are only £1,530,691 i below the record of 1924-25. Exports during June were valued at £3,276,223, as against £3,603.416 last year, while imports totalled £3,161,038, as against £3,638,533. As the 12 months ended June 30 correspond most nearly with the season of production, the trade returns for that period are the most instructive indication of the condition of the country’s commerce. Comparison with the previous year shows an increase in exports of £9,224,203 and a reduction of imports by £3,875,745. While exports have closely approached the record valuation, imports have contracted to the lowest amount since 1921-22.
