IN THE MARKET PLACE
BANANAS SELL FREELY CHEAPER EGGS Steady trading is recorded in most departments in the City Marts. The egg market has eased another 2d over the week. The Tofua arrived yesterday with approximately 5,000 cases less than her usual shipment of bananas. The fruit, generally, was in good condition, and sold from the ship’s side at from 14s to 16s a case. The balance went into store, where the fruit is meeting with a steady sale. Little change fs recorded in the demand for apples and pears. Island tomatoes meet with rather a weak demand. The quantity of hothouse tomatoes coming forward now is very limited. A further shipment of citrus fruit, chiefly oranges, is due on the Sydney boat to-morrow. Little movement is recorded in the market for field and garden produce.
