HAMILTON TOPICS

Fire totally destroyed an unoccupied four-roomed cottage in Tui Street, Maeroa Estate, Frankton, on Saturdajevening. The property, which was owned by Mr. J. W. Walsh, of Hamilton, was not insured. A smoking set was presented to Sergeant J. F. Callagher, who has been in charge of the artillery barracks at Hamilton since 1919, at a gathering at Hamilton on Friday evening. Sergeant Callagher is being transferred to Devonport, where he will have the rank of staff-sergeant. Major J. N. Baxter, officer commanding the Waikato battery, and his officers, made eulogistic reference to the work done and the interest shown by Sergeant Callagher in the battery.
