PERSONAL.—Mr. A. Lang has joined the Kartigi as chief engineer. Mr. T. E. Peters is now chief engineer of the Kamo. Mr. F. Clennell has joined the Kaimai as second engineer in place of Mr. J. W. McGill, who is ashore for instructions. Mr. R. Mather, fifth engineer of the Otokia, has come ashore for examination. Mr. T. F. Mayer has joined the Otokia as seventh engineer. CARGO FROM WEST OF ENGLAND. —The local office of the New Zealand Shipping .Company has been advised of the following projected sailings from West of England ports for New Zealand: The Turakina replaces the Somerset and sails from Liverpool on August 18; the Hertford leaves on September 15; the Norfolk on October 13; and the Cumberland on October 27. CARGO FROM NEW YORK.—Advice has been received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company that the A. and A. Line's chartered steamer Papanui, from Montreal, left New York last Wednesday, July 4, and Newport News the following day, with a cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is expected to arrive here on August 4. SUSSEX LEAVES SINGAPORE. — Cabled advice - has been received by the Union Company that the Sussex left Singapore on Wednesday for Calcutta. The vessel is due there about July 20, and will load for Auckland, "Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is to leave about the first week in August for Per* ang, Singapore, and Samarang to fill up. NORFOLK AT GISBORNE. —Now loading at Gisborne the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company have been advised that the Federal steamer Norfolk is to leave there late on Wednesday for Auckland, where she is due on Friday morning to fill up. It is hoped to dispatch her finally about Saturday next for New York, Boston and London, via Panama. TEKOA'S MOVEMENTS.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Tekoa, which arrived at Wellington on Thursday from Auckland to complete discharge of her London cargo, will leave there to-morrow for Oamaru to commence loading for London. From Oamaru the vessel will return to Wellington, where she is due next Thursday for further loading. The Tekoa will leave Wellington again on July 15 for Napier. Gisborne’ and Auckland to fill up. She is timed to sail finally from Auckland on July 26 for the United States and London, via Panama.

RADIO BEACON.—It is intended that the radio beacon at Cape Maria Van Diemen will resume its operations at the end of August. Further notice will be issued.

MAIMOA CLEARED TENERIFFE. The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Maimoa, which sailed from Wellington on May 20 for Southampton and London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe, is reported to have cleared Teneriffe last Thursday. REMUERA LEAVES SOUTHAMPTON—CabIe advice has been received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company that the liner Remuera, from London, left Southampton on Friday last for Wellington and Auckland. The vessel is expected to arrive at Wellington on August 11 and at Auckland a week latsr. LAMB STEAMER OMANA. Advice received by the Northern Company states the Lamb steamer Omana is due at Auckland about the end of July with coal and timber from Newcastle, Sydney and Port Stephens. After discharge she will load timber for Australia at Auckland and Northern ports. MELBOURNE PASSENGER SERVICE. —The Union Company's intercolonial passenger steamer Manuka, which is undergoing overhaul and survey at Port Chalmers, is scheduled to resume running in the Melbourne service on August 3. She will be dispatched from Dunedin for Melbourne, via Lyttelton and Wellington. NORTH HEAD SIGNAL STATION.— Ships desirous of communicating with the nignal station on the summit of North Head, Wanganui, should not proceed northward of the flag-staff bearing OOldeg., as the view from the watchhouse northward of that bearing is obscured by sand dunes. MAUNGANUI AT SAN FRANCISCO. —The Union Company reports that the Maunganui arrived at San Francisco on Saturday from Wellington. The vessel is timed to leave again next Wednesday for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney, and is due there on July 30. WAI TO M O FOR NEWCASTLE. —The local office of the Union Company advises that the steamer Waitomo, which arrived at Auckland on Saturday afternoon from Lyttelton, and berthed at the Prince’s Wharf, will, after discharge here, leave to-morrow at 10 p.m. for Newcastle to load for New Zealand. KARTIGI AT BLUFF. —From South Australian ports and Melbourne, the local office of the Uhion Company lias been advised that the steamer Kartigi arrived at Bluff at 6.30 u.m. to-day and leaves at 6.30 o’clock this evening for Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington, Tarakohe and Auckland. She is clue here about July 17. PORT DENISON SAILS WEDNESDAY.—The Farmers* Co-operative Auctioneering Company advises that the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Denison is to leave Auckland at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for Lyttelton, thence Wellington, to complete loading. The vessel is scheduled to clear Wellington finally on July 17 for London, via Cape Horn. ULIMAROA FROM SYDNEY. —Due at Auckland to-morrow from Sydney, the Huddart-Parker and Company’s passenger steamer Ulimaroa will, after pratique has been granted, berth at the Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. She is timed to leave Auckland at 11 a.m. next Friday on her return trip to the New South Wales port.

TOFUA RETURNS.—The Union Company’s Island passenger steamer Tofua returned to Auckland this morning from the South Pacific Islands and berthed at the Queen’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO STEAMERS —The Union Company advises the following movements of steamers engaged in the trans-Pacific cargo service:— The Waihemo will leave Los Angeles on July 12 for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on August 5. The Wairuna left Suva on June 29 for Fanning Island. Vancouver, San Francisco and Los Angeles to load for Auckland, Napier. Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth, also probably Bluff or Nelson. She will clear Los Angeles on August 15. The Waiotapu will leave Newcastle on July 10 for Vancouver direct. She will complete loading at San Francisco and Los Angeles for Papeete, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney, and will clear Los Angeles about August 31. The Waikawa will leave New Plymouth on July 12 for Suva, and sail thence to Vancouver. She will load at Pacific Coast ports during August for Apia, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. The Hauraki will leave Sydney about August 17 for Suva and depart thence for Vancouver. She will load at. Pacific Coast ports during August for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. The Waitemata, which arrived at Wellington on Saturday, sails to-night for Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, and sails thence to Newcastle, Suva and Vancouver. The forward loading dates at the Pacific Coast ports are approximately as follow: The Waitemata will load at Vancouver and San Francisco during September for New Zealand and Australian ports. The Waihemo will load at Vancouver and San Francisco in October and November probably for New Zealand outports. A steamer will load at Vancouver and San Francisco during November for Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. The Wairuna will load at Vancouver arid San Francisco during December for New Zealand and Australian ports. The "Waikawa will load at Vancouver and San Francisco during December for New Zealand and Australian ports. The Hauraki will load at Vancouver .and San Francisco during December for New Zealand and Australian ports. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE— The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations to-night:— Auckland: Ulimaroa, H.M.S. Dunedin, Maheno, Aymeric, Brynje. Chatham islands: Rotorua, Rimutaka, Port Sydney, Borderer, Port Huon. Wellington: Maori, Wahine, Tamahine, Arahura, Port Curtis, Aorangi, Marama. Gambia River, Indianola. Norfolk, Runtime, Canadian Challenger, Niagara. Awarua: Kawatiri, Kartigi, Waikouaiti, Xutanekafc Karevu.

VALACIA FROM LIVERPOOL.—The Cunard Company's cargo vessel \ afcca arrived in the stream at Auckland at nine o’clock last evening- with a caigo of general merchandise from Li\erpool, and berthed this morning at Queen « Wharf to commence the discharge oi tne local portion of her cargo. The vessel loaded at "West Coast ports of the Lnitcd Kingdom and sailed finally from Liverpool on May 26. Fair weather prevailed across the Atlantic, and the vessel arrived at Panama on June 9, clearing Balboa the following day. Fine weather conditions continued right up till about ten days ago, when heavy westerly to south-westerly gales were encountered. The vessel averaged just on 11 knots for the trip. From one o’clock to four o’clock yesterday afternoon the gale was at its worst, and being beam on the Valacia rolled considerably. Captain Francis Finch is in command of the Valacia, and associated with him are the following officers: —Chief, Mr. G. S. Evans; second, Mr. G. Meggitt; third. Mr. J. H. Sayer; purser, Mr. Underwood; chief engineer, Mr. J. Winton; second, Mr. Dawson: third. Mr. Bailey; fourth, Mr. J. Kearley; fifth, Mr. Avey. The vessel brought no passengers, but among the crew is one stowaway. She has over 2.000 tons of cargo for Auckland, and the remainder will be discharged at Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Messrs. Heather Roberton and Companv, the local agents, advise that the Valacia is to be dispatched from Auckland about Thursday next. DUNDRENNAN ARRIVES. —An arrival in the stream at Auckland at 8 o’clock this morning was the Scottish Navigation Company’s steamer, Dundrennan, with a cargo of nitrate of soda from Tal Tal and Iqueque, Chile. The vessel loaded first at Tal Tal, and then completed at Iqueque, sailing finally from Chile on June 8. Very fair weather was experienced for the first three weeks of the voyage, but conditions became squally about eight days ago, and thus the arrival of the vessel was delayed. She has a cargo of 6,000 tons of nitrates altogether, 825 tons of which will be discharged at the King’s Wharf, and the remainder at Australian ports. The vessel, which was built by Russell and Company, of Glasgow, in 1912, saw service during the war as a supply j steamer. For this voyage she is under charter to Andrew Weir. Captain Thomas Ferguson is in command of the Dundrennan, and associated with him are the following officers:— Chief, Mr. Croudace; second, Mr. W. Thomson; third, Mr. J. Mac Kay; chief engineer, Mr. Marshall; second, Mr. Robertson: third, Mr. Mitchell; wireless operator, Mr. Dean. Messrs. Robert Millar and Company, the local agents for the vessel, advise that they hope to dispatch the Dundrennan to-morrow for Sydney, Yarraville, Adelaide, Williamstown and Fremantle.

HAUTURU (3 p.m.), Fowler-Jackson, from Hokianga. / The Rarawa sails from Onehunga at 3 o’clock this afternoon for New Plymouth and is due back at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Hauturu, sailing at 4 p.m. to-day for Raglan, Kawhia and Waikato Heads, returns to Onehunga on Thursday morning. The Arapawa is to sail from Onehunga at noon to-morrow for Wanganui. The Isabella de Frame arrived at Onehunga yesterday from Hokianga and sails to-morrow afternoon on her return trip. The Kaitoa, which left Onehunga on Saturday afternoon for Nelson and West Coast ports, returns on Thursday next to load again for Nelson.
