Miners Turn Down Owners’ Proposals
DEADLOCK FEARED FURTHER DISCUSSION SOUGHT (From Our Own Correspondent.) HUNTLY, To-day. The rejection of the owners’ wage proposals by the Northern Miners’ Uniori provides the material for a grave industrial deadlock. The union has asked that the owners discuss the issue further; The nerthern miners’ district council met on Saturday, when it was unanimously decided, to send the following to the coalmine owners through Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of their association. “I am instructed on behalf of the Northern Miners Union to inform you that the final proposals as submitted by the coalmine owners at the wages conference were placed before the members of the Northern Miners’ Union and, after a long discussion, were unanimously turned down. Under the circumstances the only course open, for us is to. suggest that you, on behalf of the owners, agree to meet the northern coalmine representatives to rediscuss the points in dispute with the object of arriving at an amicable settlement.”
