“SACRAMENT”

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH The subject of the lesson-sermon in the Christian Science Church yesterday was “Sacrament,” the golden text being taken from Psalms cxvi., 12, 13, “What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me? . I will °{ fe . r to Thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.” Among the citations forming the lesson-sermon was the following passage from the Bible: “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth” (1 Corinthians v., 7, 8). The following citations from the Christian Science textbook were also included in the lesson-sermon, “Judaic and other rituals are but types and shadows of true worship.” ‘Our baptism is a purification from all error. . . .

Our Eucharist is spiritual communion with the one God. Our bread, “which cometh down from heaven,” is Truth. Our cup is the cross. Our wine the inspiration of Love, the draught our Master drank and commended to His followers” (pp. 140, 35, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy.)
