HEALEY REGISTERS THIRD WIN IN ROAD CYCLING

RACING AT MANGERE Weather conditions were again bad on Saturday for cycle road racing. In both cash and amateur races, riders had to face blinding rain, and one o i the fiercest winds experienced this season at Mangere. Following are the results: Manukau Amateur Cycling Club’s 22mile event. —J. 'Whitten, lm, 1; F. Taylor, 2m 30s, 2; C. I. Gainsborough, lm 455, 3; R. Foubister, lm 455, 4. Time and fastest time, 61m 1 2-ss. Thirty-two riders started in this event, a good muster, considering the day. When half the distance had been covered rain came on and spoilt the chances of the front markers, who, up to that time, appeared to have a good chance of winning. An unfortunate accident occurred on the Black Bridge corner in the second lap, when Pinker came down through his machine skidding, bringing down W. Dwight, S. Baird and another. The former quickly remounted and gave chase, but the delay let the back markers get peaC and from there to the end, they had matters all their own way. Taking the lead three miles from the finish, J. Whitton was never troubled, winning looking round. F. Taylor, who finished second, beat C. Gainsborough by a length, with R. Foubister a half-length away fourth. The winner also won the fastest time prize, besides making his position in the points pn* e for the season practically unassailable. HEALEY’S THIRD WIN Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club* 20-mile Open Handicap.—N. Healey. 2m 30s, 1; J. Henderson, 2m 30s, 2: Francis, 4m, 3. Time, 58m 27 Fastest time: S. Hayes, 54m 17a. For the third time this season Healey was declared the winner. carried too many guns for J. Henderson over the last 100 yards, and won by half a length. The result might have been different if the six riders who had stayed up. Those who suffered most were F. Prior (scr) and Archer, the former being unable finish. The pouring rain had made th© surface of the tar-sealed roads very *bP" pery, with the result that in turning Robertson’s Corner Mathieson cam© down, bringing Lindop over the top ox him, Prior also coming to grief. This spoilt what chances the back markers had, and Henderson and Healey pacing each other well gradually opened up * gap of a hundred yards on the of the field, two miles from the finish, which they maintained to the end. fc * Hayes (scr) won fastest time after a hard ride.
