PRESIDENTIAL DINNER Last evening Mr. C. L. Mac Diarmid, president of the Hamilton Rotarians, entertained his fellow Rotarians and their wives at dinner in the Chequer T3a Rooms. The rooms had been charmingly decorated with spring flowers and big pots of ferns. Mrs. McDiarmid, the hostess, received her guests in a lovely frock of geranium pink georgette. Mr. McDiarmid welcomed the guests and spoke with great enthusiasm of the work done by Mr. G. Boyes, last year’s president, in furthering Rotary in Hamilton. MORNING TEA Yesterday morning Mrs. G. Barnett gave a very pleasant tea to some of the wives of the visiting clergy and Synodsmen. Her guests were Mrs. Evans, New Plymouth; Mrs. Turner, Matamata; Mrs. Kempthorne, Te Kuiti; Mrs. Karyll, Stratford; Mrs. Wilks, Morrinsville; Mrs. Robinson, Huntly; Mrs. Connolly, Te Aroha; Mrs. Mclnnes, Stratford; Mrs. Butt, TJreta; Mrs. F. G. Harvie, Mrs. Gilfillan and Miss C. Wilks, Cambridge. G.D.A. MEETING—TALK ON INDIA Last evening the members of the Girls’ Diocesan Association met at Mrs. F. T. Wilson’s home in Ohaupo Road. After the business meeting was over the Rev. F. Dong, who has sjpent over 12 years in India, gave a most interesting talk on the condition of women in India, and the many opportunities for women missionaries in that land. He drew many graphic pictures of life in India. _ The members present were Miss Kathleen Wilson, Miss M. Young. Miss L. Nicholls, Miss D. Wilson, Miss L. Hume, Miss M. Clayton-Greene, Miss F. AT HOME AT BISHOPSCOURT On Thursday afternoon Bishop Cherrington and Mrs. Cherrington, assisted by the students, gave a delightful “At Home” at Bishopscourt. verandahs were charmingly decorated j with spring flowers and shrubs and I arranged with small tables for tea. In the dining-room a fine orchestra ! played at intervals, and several songs and duets were given by Miss Kirby, Miss Olga Kirby and Mr. George Wheeler. Nearly 300 guests were present, in- i eluding the visiting clergy and Synodsmen and their wives. Mrs. Ings leaves for England and the Continent on Monday, July 16. The table was charmingly decorated with spring flowers, vases of stately narcissi being arranged beside bowls of fragrant violets.
