TIRI TENNIS DANCE AT DEVONPORT The Tiri Tennis Club held its annual ball in the Foresters’ Hall, Devonport, last evening, the president, Mrs. Baxter, being hostess. A masked carnival dance, novelty waltzes and other variations of dances added to the evening’s entertainment, while the royal blue and gold decorations of the hall foiled by green foliage and festooned flowers added a. note of brightness. Trophies won by members of the club during the past season were presented by Mrs. Baxter: Ladies’ championship. Mrs. R. Hale; men’s championship, Mr. C. MANUREWA TENNIS CLUB FAREWELL SOCIAL There was a large attendance of members and friends of the Manurewa Tennis Club, at the Manurewa Town Hall on Wednesday evening, when a farewell social was given to Mr. L. Millar, a popular member of the club, who is leaving for Australia. During the evening, Mr. W. L. Smith, president of the club, handed Mr. Millar a handsome leather travelling bag. Dance music was supplied by Miss L. Grant, Messrs. J. Murray, J. Donaldson and P. Bradburn. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by Messrs. L. M. Pegler, P. Bradburn and B. Pegler. SOIREE-DANSANT FRENCH CLUB FUNCTION The Club Aucklandais de LTAlliance Francaise held a most successful soiree-dansant in the Click Clack Cabaret last evening. M. Paul Serre, the French Consul, Mr. T, S. Ardern, the club president, and Mrs. Clews received the guests. Mrs. Clews wearing ravens-wing blue geoi%ette with french pleated skirt and loose panel embroidered in rose. A very cheery evening was spent, dancing to music provided by Walter Smith’s orchestra. GOLF CLUB BALL ANNUAL FUNCTION AT PAPAKURA The Papakura Golf Club held its annual ball in the Paragon Theatre last evening:. The function was a brilliant success, socially and financially. There was a very large attendance, including many visitors from, neighbouring clubs. The ballroom was attractively decorated in the club's colours, blue and gold. Supper was served in an artistically arranged room. Delightful music was dispensed by Mr. Phil Hardman's orchestra. The M.C.’s duties were filled by Messrs. TV. A. Pavitt, G. M. Tilston and J. E. Elliott. Much credit is due to the indefatigable secretary, Mr. G. Smith, for the splendid success of the club’s annual ball. Among those present were: Mrs/ TV. A. BRIDGE PARTY FOR COMMUNITY CLUB There was a fair attendance of players at a bridge party given in Lewis Lady’s Hall yesterday afternoon by the members of the Auckland Play and Recreation Association Community Club Auxiliary. Mrs. F. L. N. Gaudin, the chairman of the committee, welcomed the guests, wearing a smart gown of navy blue face cloth with royal blue embroideries. She wore a felt hat to match. Mrs. F. Rainger was wearing a navy blue ensemble and a navy bleu hat. Mrs. E. J. Taylor chose a black ensemble suit, with Chinese embroideries, and a hat to match. Mrs. Griham wore a frock of black crepe marocain, and a balck liat. Mrs. Prior Williams was in a suit of mulberry cloth over floral georgette, with fur bandings, and she wore a matching hat. : Mrs. Alfred Eady chose a cedar brown satin crene frock, and a small hat of autumn shadings. Mrs. R. F. Featherston wore a steel grey suit, with grey furs, and a hat to tone. Mrs. S. H. Brown was wearing a beige ensemble suit and a felt hat of the same shade. Mrs. Babbington was in a suit of marled tweeds, with a fawn hat. Mrs. Moses wore a black coat and frock, with a floral scarf and a black hat. Mrs. John Fuller chose a beech brown ensemble and a brown hat. Miss D’Arcy Jones wore a cherry red hat with her black chenille frock. Miss F. WEDDING BELLS PATERSON—HARVEY A very pretty wedding was celebrated at All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, when Louie, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Peterson, of Waitanguru, near JTe Kuiti, was married to James, third son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Harvey, of Ponsonby Road, Canon Fancourt officiated. The bride was given away by her father, and was dressed in a simple satin gown with veil and orange blossoms. Mr. Alex Peterson, brother of the bride, acted as best man. The wedding breakfast was served at the Broadway Lounge, after which the young couple left by the northbound express for Waitanguru, where they spent a few days at the home of the bride’s parents.
