TARANAKI DAIRYING
SEASON’S SATISFACTORY RETURNS (Special to THE SUN) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. For the first time since the 1912-13 season, which was the earliest season for which re-turns were available, the dairy production for North Taranaki has not registered an increase over that of the previous season. Production of butterfat for the season just ended, however, was only 1.9 per cent, below that of the 1926-27 period. This is regarded as a very satisfactory return as the season was notable for the dryness of the summer and early autumn. The unusually good late autumn production helped considerably to reduce the percentage decrease. In September the output to that date showed an increase of 16i per cent., but this was steadily reduced, until at the end of May the decrease was 2.1 S per cent. However, good .Tune production brought the final figure back to 1.9 per cent. Produce handled from North Taranaki factories by the Taranaki Producers’ Company’s cold stores represented 20,600 tons. Last season the quantity was 20,918 tons.
