STRUCK SAFETY ZONE

TAXI-DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY A taxi-cab, out of control, dashed into the raised end of a safety zona at the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street shortly after 10 o'clock last evening. The driver, Mr. William Deane, of 18 Oliphant Street, Ponsonby, was not injured. He was alone in the motor.

The taxi was proceeding up Queen Street when the steering gear failed. The impact shatered the masonry at the end of the zone and forced it out of position. The taxi was badly damaged, the right front wheel being almost torn off and the radiator damaged. The chassis was strained.
