HIPPODROME AND EMPRESS
DOUBLE FEATURE BILL A story of romance and gipsy caravans in the beautiful woodlands of sunny Spain—such is “Southern Love,” starring the popular actress. Betty Blythe, which is now being shown at the Hippodrome and Empress Theatres. This picture was specially screened in the Albert Hall, London, before the Prince of Wales and an assembly of the intellectuals of England. The “London Times,” commenting on the occasion said: “Were every film screened of equal entertainment value, the problems of cinema managers would have been solved long ago.” “The Great Turf Mystery” is the second attraction on the programme, and is a Nat Gould racing picture. Doped horses, a girl duped by aii aristocratic fiend and an exciting race for the Grand National are the ingredients which go to make “The Great Turf Mystery” a first-class story. It is seldom that on one programme there is such diverse screen fare; in one picture the warm atmosphere of Spain, and the charming Spanish beauties; and in the other the cool machinations of unscrupulous racecourse thieves.
Sally Phipps and Nick Stuart who „ last „ s< t en * n “ The High School Hero, will be the featured players in Pox Films production, “The News Parade.” This production is a screen visualisation of the perils and thrills the ingenuity and the courage involved m the making of a newsreel. Interwoven in the action is a charm£tncl delightful romance between tne daring young newsreels cameraman and a daughter of wealth, highlighted with many sequences of tense and real human dranyi.
