MOTOR ASSOCIATION MANY NEW ACTIVITIES ANNUAL REPORT ISSUED In spite of many new activities, some of them very’ costly, the Auckland Automobile Association made a profit of over £I,OOO last year. When its year ended on May .11 tho association was by far the strongest motoring body in New Zealand, with, a membership of 6,918. Last year the association started with 4,345 members. The latest list has been issued after a complete purging. The annual report has now b< en issued to members, and the annu.il meeting is fixed for July 11 The membership details are included in the report. The reporF comments with pleasure on the agreement of tho Hamilton and Franklin branches to become agencies, and states that there are now 30 agents scattered throughout the province. YEAR’S ALTERATIONS The biggest activity of tho year wal the institution of tho patrol service, with three cyclists and a sign-posting truck. The touring manager has visited most of the North island, and the 1928 map will bo entirely up-to-date. The increased activities hav e hud their effect on the working account, but the year finished with a surplus of £1,130, and tne association now has assets valued at £ 4,586, of which £2,950 is represented by cash balances and investments. Tho association’s solicitors appeared in court in 85 cases, and in a number of instances prosecutions were avoided by a proper explanation to the authorities. Tho insurance scheme fostered by the association has met with the greatest satisfaction, but the amount of tirno involved in attention by association representatives has made it necessary to reduce tho 20 per cent, reduction on current ra*es to 15 per cent., tho 5 per cent, going to the association or Its agents. The income and expenditure account discloses that £5,225 was received from subscriptions last year. The Muriwai races showed a loss of £25 12s 6d. Tho gate takings were £332 12s sd, and nominations £lO3 16s. the total income being £548 7s lOd. Trophies accounted for £ 307 I2s Bd.
