DEVONPORT DOINGS
REQUESTS TO COUNCIL BEHAVIOUR OF DANCERS Devonport Borough Council was informed last evening by Mr. A. Harris, M.P., that the Naval Department would not sanction the handing over to the borough of a house on Mount Victoria which was used formerly by officers in charge of the magazine there. Delegates were appointed to meet Northcote Borough concerning validating legislation for the advancing of payments from general account of the cost of the combined refuse destructor. A complaint that the coi\duct of dancers at the Foresters’ Hall was more like that “of wild animals than human beings” was referred to the hall trustees. Tenders for cast-iron mains for Stanley Bay sewer were opened, and Messrs. A. and T. Burt, with a price of £271, were given the order. The council is purchasing a motordriven roller for footpath work. A scheme of bus parking at the new wharf approach was tentatively adopted. About 20 to 25 buses will be parked waiting for ferry passengers. The Palmerston North Borough’s request for support in changing the method of constituting hospital boards was not supported. The Public Works Department is completing plans for cutting out stormwater discharge from the camp into the borough sewers.
The Auckland City Council Water Bill is to be further examined.
