MINING NEWS

HAURAKI.—The manager reports: “Work has been partially resumed at the 400 ft level. The seaward face on the main reef has been extended 15ft beyond the point where the strong flow of water was met with. The reef maintains its width of about 3ft with gritty pug on the hangingwall with mineral indications similar to those where the gold was met with on the junction of the Union Beach cross reef 130 ft back from the face. The incoming water is again easing off, but is still more than the pump can deal with. The Palmerston shaft and the Tangye winze below the 180 ft level of the Union Beach shaft, which were filled with the recent flood water, are again nearly clear.”
