“NOT FAIRLY TREATED”

NEWMARKET OPPOSES WATER_ BILL It was news to several members of the Newmarket Borough Council to learn last evening of the intention of the Auckland City Council to proceed with the proposed Auckland Water Bill. •It is very kind of them, I am sure,” remarked one councillor when the chief purport of the Bill was read. The Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, expressed a desire to pursue the original intention of local bodies in respect to a water supply scheme, which, he said, was more comprehensive than the one proposed in the city’s Bill. Cr. H. J. Cooper agreed that Newmarket had not been treated fairly over the water question, tie wished to avoid any error, however, and would seek further information upon the attitude of other local bodies. “We do not want to fall foul of the City Council,” he said. The council decided to pursue the Weal of the water scheme propounded among local bodies last year. ONE TREE HILL’S OPINION “I do not think for one moment that this will go through,” decided Mr. R. G. Clark when a copy of the Water Bill was received by the One Tree Hill Road Board last evening. Although it was thought that One Tree Hill would not be affected greatly, the possibility of a conference of local bodies regarding the proposal was mentioned and the board deferred consideration of the draft of the Bill. LOAN FOR FOOTPATHS The council will approach the ratepayers for a loan of £BOO for roadways and footpaths in Mortimer Pass, and rejected a proposal to raise £ 500 for children’s play apparatus in Outhwaite Park. It had been proposed to use this moqey for the relief of uncmploymcnt
