HIT SHOAL AT HALIFAX Loss Of The Dauntless VISITED AUCKLAND IN 1924 (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P. JL.— United Service) Received 9.5 a.m. HALIFAX, Tuesday. CTEAMING slowly into Halifax Harbour in a dense fog vJ on Monday, the British cruiser Dauntless crashed on the Tribune Shoal, well inside the harbour entrance, and is rapidly breaking up. There has been no loss of life. fhe Dauntless visited New Zealand in 1924 with the Special Service Squadron.
She has been abandoned by her officers and men, except her commander, Captain MacPherson, and a skeleton crew of 50. The Thrum Cap buoy was mistaken for the one marking the fairway. The Dauntless had a complement of 460 officers and men. Captain MacPherson has ordered all vessels to keep clear, as there is a
danger of the cruiser breaking in two. The crew was placed, with its effects, on the Canadian light cruisers Festubert and Ypres. REFLOATING EFFORTS A British Official Wireless message says that according to present information, no loss of life occurred on the Dauntless, which is a cruiser of 4,650 tons.
