PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL, in pursuance of its powers under Section 79 of the “MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS ACT, 1920,” Section 41 of the “HOSPITALS AND CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS ACT. 1909,” Section 54 of the “RATING ACT, 1925,” Section 56 of the “AUCKLAND AND SUBURBAN DRAINAGE ACT, 1905,” and all other powers enabling it in that behalf intends on THURSDAY, the 12th day of July, 1928, to make and levy the following rates, viz.: In respect of the CITY OF AUCKLAND for the year commencing on the Ist day of JUNE, 1928, and ending on the 31st day of MAY, 1929: (1) A General Rate of One Shilling and Fivepence-halfpenny (Is 5Jd) in the (2) A Library Rate of One Penny (Id) in the £. (3) Hospital and Charitable Aid Rate of Fivepence (sd) in the' £. (4) A Drainage Rate of Twopence-half-penny (2£d) in the £. (5) A Sanitation Rate of Threepence (3d) in the £ upon the annual ratable value of all property as appearing in the Valuation Roll for the time being in force in the City of Auckland. The Estimates upon which the above Rates are being struck having been approved by the Council, are open for inspection at the Town Clerk’s Office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on all business days of the week except Saturdays, when they will be open for inspection between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. WATER RATES. In respect of Water Rates in the City of Auckland for the year commencing on the Ist day of July, 1928, and ending on the 30th day of June, 1929: In respect of the Ordinary Supply of Water within the meaning of Section 533, of Bv-law No. 1, of the City of Auckland: UPON all lands and buildings to which w-ater is supplied, whose annual ratable value as appearing on the Valuation Roll— DOES hot exceed Twelve pounds Ten shillings, a Rate of Ten shillings (10s). EXCEEDS Twelve pounds Ten shillings, a Rate of two per centum (2 per cent.) upon the annual ratable value, provided that in no case shall the minimum amount of such Rate be less than Ten shillings ■ (10s). UPON all buildings used as stores or warehouses or for any purpose other than as dwelling-houses, a rate of One per centum (1 per cent.) upon the annual ratable value, provided that when the supply to hydraulic lifts in such building is wholly paid for by meter, this Rate shall not be levied upon such buildings. UPON all lands and buildings' to which water can be but is not supplied, situate within one hundred yards from any part of the waterworks, a rate of One-quarter per centum (1 per cent.) on the annual ratable value.

The said Hates to be payable in each case in one sum upon the Ist day of August, 1928, at the Municipal Offices. Town Hall, Auckland, to Andrew Messer, the Council’s Collector, or to such other person as may be from time to time appointed to collect the same. The Valuation Roll is open for inspection at the Town Hall between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on all business days of the week, except Saturdays, when it will be open for inspection between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. J.
