Cambridge High School. —A grant has been made for additions at the Cambridge District High School.

Oamaru Borough Council. —The byelection for the vacancy on the Oamaru Borough Council caused by the death of Mr. R. Mahan, resulted: Mr. H. Abbott, 363; Mr. N. H. Colquhoun, 341; Mr. W. H. Frith, 301.

Boneless Veal Production. —A large meeting at Pahiatua carried a unanimous resolution to support the National Dairy Association scheme for handling boneless veal on a national co-operative basis. A representative committee was set up.

Pick Pierces Cable. —A workman who wielded a pick to particular advantage damaged a telephone cable in Cleveland Road. Parnell, yesterday, and subscribers’ telephones in the vicinity were placed out of order. To-day, labourers were engaged in repairing the break.

Will Be Found Work.—Allan Arthur Lewer, who came before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., at the Police Court for sentence this morning was committed to the care of the Salvation Army, a suggestion having been made that he might be found employment on a farm. Schools As Polling Booths.—Objection to the use of schools as polling booths was lodged by the Education Board to-day in response to requests from Graham’s Fern and Riverhead Committees. It vfas decided to suggest that the infant department only of Napier Street School should be used. Woman’s Death in Bed. —A verdict of death from natural causes. was returned at the inquest at Eltham yesterday concerning the death of a married woman, Ada Catherine Bennett, who was found dead in bed on Tuesday afternoon. —P.A. Support for Reform. —A meeting of Reform Party supporters in New Plymouth on Monday evening, passed a vbte of confidence in the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. .T. G. Coates, and expressed its appreciation of the. work of the present member, Mr. C. E. Bellringer. .
