PEEPING TOM

CAUGHT AND THRASHED Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Tuesday. A ‘‘Peeping Tom" was before the Court to-day when James Shend, aged 20, a clerk, was charged with being illegally on premises. About midnight a woman who was retiring saw a man’s face at the window. She screamed and the intruder ran away. Later he was seen peering into another house, and when the woman raised the alarm, a male inmate gave chase and captured and thrashed him. Accused admitted the offences, and. counsel asked for leniency on the ground of accused’s actions being due to drink. The magist*#.te, Mr. Cruicksliank, S.M., fined Shand .£lO on one charge and £5 on another and refused to suppress his name.
