COMPETITORS IMPUGNED OLD “YOUTH” DISQUALIFIED (From Our Own Correspondents TE AROHA, Tuesday. Allegations of dishonest competition at country athletic meetings were dealt with at a committee meeting of the Northern Athletic Union held at Te Aroha last evening. Mr. C. Bullott, secretary of the Donnelly’s Crossing Sports Club, alleged that A. Williams, aged 27, had illegally won the youths’ chopping event at the club’s Easter meeting, which was limited to competitors under the age of 21 years. It was decided to disqualify Williams pending further information. In connection with a protest against awarding the open handicap sawing event at the same meeting to K. Meirs and A. Williams, it was decided to request the competitors concerned to sign a declaration before a justice of the peace to the effect that their nomination papers had correctly recorded their past performances. The official handicapper, Mr. F. McAnemy, alleged serious discrepancies in the nomination papers of F. Hubbard, of Morrinsville, for seve country sports meetings. Mr. C. Chase, Morrinsville. trainer of Hubbard, said he had filled in Hubbard’s performance papers, and he accepted responsibility for any mistakes.
it was decided to severely caution Hubbard.
