HEADING FOR DISASTER
SOUTH AFRICAN INDUSTRY WAGES BOARD WARNED (United P.A. — By Telegraph — Copyrigh*) (Australian Press Association.) CAPETOWN. Monday. The Capetown Chamber of Commerce has protested strongly against the enforcement of the determinations of the Wages Board. It is contended that these do not take into consideration the 100.000 coloured people employed in industries, and do not provide for the incapacity of workers to earn the wages prescribed. The clothing and sweet industries are affected. The president of the chamber says: We will tell the Government in unmistakable terms that it must keep its hands off the non-sheltered industries, or industry will be heading for disaster. The chamber favoured the fixing of wages by conciliation boards.
