Krassin Crashes On To Castaways’ Aid

MOSCOW, Monday. /CRASHING through ice 10ft thick, the great ice-breaker Krassin is now 80 miles from where Viglieri’s party of Italia survivors is marooned on an ice-floe.
Moscow experts are of tlie opinion that nothing will now prevent the Krassin from getting close enough to take' off the castaways. . A British Official Wireless message says the likelihood of two British seaplanes participating in the work of rescuing the crew of the wrecked Polar airship Italia was indicated in Parliament to-day. Sir Philip Sassoon, Under-Secretary for Air, stated that the Air Minister had notified the Italian authorities some time ago, that if there should be anything the air forces could usefully do to assist in the rescue operations of the crew of the Itala, it should call on them without hesitation. The Italian Government replied that if the occasion arose it would most certainly avail itself of the offer. Since then no further communication had been received from it. On Saturday, however. Sir Samuel Hoare received a telgraphic request from
Norwegian sources asking whether the Air Force could lend two small sea planes. He replied that if any of theii available types could be utilised ty the Norwegian authorities, the Air Force would be happy to furnish those aircraft forthwith.
