VIGILANT WATCHMAN

BURGLARY FRUSTRATED DOOR FORCED WITH IRON (From Our Own Correspondent) RAETIHI, Monday. An attempt to break into the premises of the Wainuirino Farmers’ Cooperative Association, Seddon Street, Raetihi, was made on Saturday at about 11.30 p.m. The burglar tried to gain admittance by a side-door. A piece of iron had been used to force the door open. A man was seen in the vicinity by the nightwatchman, Mr. G. Rose, who switched his electric torch on to him. The nightwatchman’s suspicions were aroused as to the behaviour of the man, and he questioned him as to his doings in the passage. The man immediately ran away. On making an examination the nightwatchman discovered the sidedoor had been forced open, and he gave the alarm to the police. An inspection of the premises disclosed that nothing had been stolen.
