The New Zealand apples ex the lonic, Port Adelaide and Somerset brought: Sturmers, 10s to 12s; Delicious, 12s to 14s; Jonathans, 13s to 14s. An interesting development in the fruit trade has been the first arrival of Chilean apples, the quality of which surprised and pleased Covent Garden experts. They mostly exceed three inches in diameter, and comprise Newtown Pippins and White Winter Pearmains. They are all beautifully-clean, showy fruit, especially the llogvers, which are well graded and attractively Packed, although too big for English requirements, realising 14s to 15s a rase. One importer says that if Chile sends -4-inch or 2s||-inch apples it is likely to become a serious competitor with the Dominions, as the seasons are concurrent.
