This interesting-looking person Sureya Agha Aghlan, the only worn;
barrister practising in Turkey. Recently she appeared on behalf of a man charged with murder in Angora, and was successful in securing his acquittal. THE OUTSIDE WORLD Miss Rachel Gillies, who has lived the whole of her 17 years of life in the little island of St. Kilda, in the Outer Hebrides, is now paying a visit to the outside world. St. Kilda, which has a population of about 50 inhabitants, is only seven miles in circumference, and lies about 100 miles from the coast of Scotland. * INDIAN FORESTRY On the staff of the Indian Forestry Department is Miss J. T. Kingston, a woman expert, who received her training at the Cambridge Forestry School and in the United States. Her work takes her into wild and remote regions seldom explored by the whites and, although not yet 30, she has written a monograph on one aspect of forestry which is attracting attention in scientific circles. “CHATTELS” According to Afghan law, a wife becomes part of her husband’s estate at his death, and is liable to be sold with his goods and chattels. It is reported that in order to save a German woman from such a fate, the German Minister in Afghanistan was recently forced to buy her in open market.
