FIXING ANZAC DAY
MINISTER SUGGESTS SUNDAY (Spscia* to THE SUNJ MASTERTON, Sunday. Speaking at a reunion of ex-service-men at Carterton last evening, the Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. D McLeod, said he thought a fixed day should be set aside for Anzac Day. “If Anzac Day is to be perpetuated, it should be a time of solemn memory for the sacrifices made by the people of this country and of Australia.’’ said the Minister. “1 feel that we shall have to fix a day, Sunday for preference. That opinion must came if Anzac Day is to be observed at all." This feeling was supported later in the evening by Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association.
