“BUSH CINDERELLA”
NEW HAYWARD PICTURE OLD PIONEERING SPIRIT “The Bush Cinderella,” starring Dale Austen, now being made in Auckland, is said to be a true picture of New Zealand life as we' know it, with the drama added as we would like to know it. It is also interesting from the old colonial standpoint. The pioneering spirit is in the players as well as in the picture. The ever
open door, the hospitality of the early days is not really gone from country places. This is emphasised in the part of the farmer, played by Thomas McDermott, “the man weighed with cares and responsibilities of his own, yet ever willing to put out a helping hand.” The wife is played by May Bain, who is said to give a sympathetic and natural picture of the woman on the land. The daughter of an old Dunedin family, Miss Bain is known to a wide circle both in the South Island and here. She has played successfully many of the competitions throughout New Zealand. Her wide interests, both in the artistic world, and since her marriage, in the world of politics, contribute to the understanding portrayal she makes of her part.
