“THE ESCAPE”
FILMED FROM STAGE PLAY Splendid direction and some of the best characterisations seen h are in months are among the outstanding features in “Tim Escape.” New ork is the scene of this modern version of the stage success, and tew directors have succeeded in catching the true spirit of the Metropolis as has Richard Rossin. handling the tenements and the night club scenes. The production is marked by the utmost fidelity* throughout. William Russell playing opposite Miss Vulli, gives one of the best performances of his career. George Meeker, something of a newcomer to the screen, is admirably cast as the young physician who descends into the depths of New York .light lile. Miss Valli’s characterisation as May Joyce, a struggling girl of the tenements, will stand out for many months as the best thing she has attempted on the. screen.
Anita Page, filmland’s newest Cinderella, is certainly making a whirlwind beginning at the Metro-Gold-wyn studios. As soon as she finished working as William Haines’s leading lady in the latter’s new untitled picture, she was cast in one of the three leading feminine roles in “Our Dancing Daughters.” Joan Crawford and Dorothy Sebastian are also featured in this new production.
