NAMES THE DAY

ARGUS SUBMITS TO TEST “NO SUPERNORMAL POWERS” “Argus,” the “boy prophet,” names Wednesday as the day on which he is willing to submit to a test of his powers of telepathy. His manager, Mr. C. L. Copeland, said to-day that he had never claimed “supernormal powers” for the lad. “But,” he continued, “by no stretch of imagination can it be said by an nubiased person that Argus performs conjuring tricks.’’ ’ This test will be arranged to satisfy the public. Argus will appear on the stage blindfolded and close to the footlights. A committee, say, of pressmen, will be grouped with numerals from 1 to 100 in their possession. A number of the committee will be invited to select at random a number and will hand it to me. Without shuffling, clearing the throat, winking an eye, uttering a word or giving any signal, I will concentrate on the numeral and Argus will tell what the number is. I suggest 10 tests of this nature. Further to prove the genuineness of Argus, I am prepared to leave the theatre. I invite any committee member to select and hang a numeral on a blackboard in view of the audience while I am absent. The audience will be asked to concentrate on the number and Argus, blindfolded, with his back to the blackboard, will give the number. This should be sufficient to prove to even such a sceptic as Mr. Segar that Argus does not do his performance either by mechanical means or by code, as has been suggested.”
