ARAPUNI LAKE

ANGLERS PERTURBED RUMOUR OF PLEASURE LAUNCHES (From Our Own Correspondent) TE AWAMUTU, To-day. Anglers in the Pukeatua and adjacent districts are concerned over a rumour that the department responsible for the control of Arapuni Lake intends to issue an exclusive licence to some person to provide and operate fishing and pleasure launches on the lake. At least two settlers in the neighbourhood of the lake take strong exception to the consummation of the proposal, contending that- the time is not far distant when Arapuni Lake will be one of the most popular trout-fish-ing waters in the whole Dominion, besides being unusually attractive for tourists and sightseers. A monopoly, as suggested, would create a position practically identical with that on the Wanganui River, which, it is contended, would not be in the best interests of the community as a whole.
