CARRYING PLUNKET BANNER TO HONOLULU
MRS. H. R. SMITH ONLY N.Z. REPRESENTATIVE The only New Zealand representative of the Plunket Society at the forthcoming Pan-Pacific Conference in Honolulu will be Mrs. H. R. Smith, of Christchurch. It was hoped that Sir Truby King and Miss Patrick, director of Plunket nursing, would be present, but unforseen circumstances will prevent their attendance. However, Mrs. Smith is fully qualified to represent the Dominion. She was one of the original members of the Plunket Society and served on the Central Committee in 1907, the year the society was inaugurated. For the past three years Mrs. Smith has been president of the Papanui subbranch of the Plunket Society. After a visit to Dunedin, Wellington and other centres, Mrs. Smith has arrived in Auckland, where she will be actively engaged in Plunket work until she sails for Honolulu on Tuesday by the Niagara. She was appointed by the Central Council of the Plunket Society to be the New Zealand delegate to the conference. Sir Truby King will return to New' Zealand via Panama, arriving at Wellington in time to be present at the New Zealand conference at the end of August. Women from all parts of the world will attend the conference at Honolulu, and all branches of women’s activities will be discussed and represented. Mrs. Smith carries with her many introductions to prominent citizens of Honolulu.
