WHANGAREI HIGH SCHOOL

MEMORIAL TO FORMER MASTER A handsome memorial stone foundation and flagpole erected in the grounds* of the new Whangarei High School was unveiled to-day, in memory of the late headmaster, Mr. Roger Lupton, by Mr. Gerald Bethell. president of the Old Pupils’ Association. Speeches were given by Mr- W. A. Carruth, chairman of the board of governors, Messrs. H. W. Crawford, A. B. Charters, M.A., principal of the school, and G. Bethell, all paying high tribute to the lofty ideals and the enduring influence of Mr. Lupton’s 28 years as headmaster. At the old pupils’ reunion, matches were played during the afternoon. In the girls’ hockey match. Present beat Past 3-2, and the Rugby match, PastPresent, resulted in a draw, 10-all.
