Firm Tone On ’Change
Huddart Parkers Improve
STEADY trading was recorded on ’Change this morning. An upward trend was noted in the market for several shares.
Banks continue in good tone, with most scrip sought on a firm market. Insurances are quiet. In coals Hikurangis have, if anything, a slightly firmer tone. Buyers offered 8s Id for the A preference scrip at mid-day, with sellers asking 9s. In the shipping section HuddartParkers improved to see business at 48s 6d. Timbers are receiving more attention and buyers are in for several shares. Leyland-O’Brien’s were dealt with outside the call room at 32s 9d. In the miscellaneous section Fullers’ Pictures have improved to see business at 21s. Wilsons Cements have a firmer tone, though no sales are recorded.
Greater activity is recorded in giltedged securities, with the market registering a slight upward tendency. Business at yesterday afternoon’s call: Reported: Commercial Bank of Australia, 29s 7d: Westport Coal, 30s 3d; New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1933, s ls per cent., £IOO 17s 6d. Business at this morning’s early call: Reported: Tooth’s Breweries, 44sf New Zealand War Loan, 1936, 5* per cent., £IOO 17s 6d. Business at to-.day’s mid-day call: On ’Change: Auckland Gas (paid), 23s 3d; Huddart-Parker, 48s 6d. Reported: New Zealand War Loan. 1933, 5S per cent.. £IOO 15s; Auckland Gas, 23s 3d: Ley land-O’Brien, 32s 9d: Fullers’ Pictures, 21s.
