SIR GEORGE WILKINS
EARLY AMERICAN VISIT HONOURING THE EXPLORERS (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) NEW YORK, Tuesday. The famous Australian aviator-ex-plorer, Sir George Wilkins and his pilot, Lieutenant Carl Eielson, are due in New York from England on July 1.
Already numerous invitations await them at the Hotel Waldorf, where they will stay. A reception will be tendered to the visitors at the City Hall and they will probably be the guests of the American Geographical Society at a luncheon. There will also be a gathering at the Explorers’ Club in their honour. It is understood that Sir George and his companion have accepted an invitation to be present at the unveiUng at Woodlawn Cemetery, New York, of a statue in memory of the late Commander George de Long, who, with his crew, were lost in the Arctic expedition of 1879. The International Rotary Club will give them a luncheon on July 5. It is expected that the two explorers will go to Atlantic City when they have completed their engagements. There they will rest until Sir George begins his flying tour of the United States.
