Settlement Must Make Railway Pay
NEW LINE TO TAUPO
ROUTE OF LINE
BY ROAD TO WAIRAKEI
WAIKATO TO BE BRIDGED It is evidently not the intention of the Government to take over the private railway line belonging to the Taupo Timber Company. This line runs from Putaruru, on the Rotorua-Hamilton line, to Oruanui, a small settlement within a few miles of Taupo, and is in very good order. The route along which the new railway line will be constructed was surveyed some years ago. It practically follows the present road from Rotorua to Wairakei, running along the edge of the Government plantation for the first few miles, touching near Waiotapu and the soldier settlement beyond that. The Waikato River, a comparatively narrow and deep stream in this country, will have to be bridged.
Motor-Cyclist Injured.—Owing to a collision at Hamilton between a mo-tor-van driven by Mr. A. Grange, of Killarney Road, Frankton, and a mo-tor-cycle ridden by a young man. Mr. E. H. Enw.right, of Tuhikaramea Road. Frankton. the latter injured his head leg and shoulder and was admitted to the Waikato Hospital.
