CHARGED BY HIPPO
GIRLS’ NIGHT ADVENTURE Two venturesome girls, one from Kenya and the other from Uganda, took out a stable lamp one night re-cen,-7 at Jinja for the purpose of looking for hippos. They went down to the lake, discovered that the night air was cold, saw nothing for their trouble, and decided to go back to bed. But when they turned about they found themselves faced by a hippo who had been having a midnight stroll and was returning to his watery couch. Perhaps the hippo was as surprised as the girls because young wor an rarely venture to the lake shores, w-ith or without lamps, in the darkness. A'n yho w, the old hippo made a rush—whether to get to safety or to try conclusions with the visitors is not clear, because the two girls parted company hurriedly and the hippo, charging between them, splashed into the water. The adventurers hurried home and, so the story closes, some of the young bloods of the village set out to revenge the insult, but e hippo, presumably, was fast asleep becau they all returned without having tried conelusions with him.
