OFF TO AUSTRALIA

MISS KAY AFTER TITLES N.Z. TEAM WANTED It is believed that Miss Olive Kay, of Dunedin, will leave for Australia on July 20, to compete in the ladies’ championships over there. She will be accompanied by Miss M. Stevens, of St. Clair. Taking into account her recent performances in this country, Miss Kay’s chances cf success on the other side would appear particularly rosy, especially in view of the fact that she is recognised as one of the best medal players in the Dominion, and that the members of the Kirk-Windeyer Cup team which recently visited New Zealand consider that the standard of ladies’ play here is better than that across the Tasman. It is rather a pity that the North Island could not find two players to accompany the two Dunedin girls, and so permit of a New Zealand team being entered in the teams matches. Probably the two most suitable players at present would be Miss M. Payton, of Rotorua, and Miss V. Upham, of Wellington, both of whom belong to the ranks of the lowest handicapped lady players in the Dominion. These four would make a fairly formidable quartet. , , Miss Leslie Bailey may prove to be one of Miss Kay’s opponents in Australia, though her attentions have been ton fined so far to Victoria. Comparatively a youngster she has displayed remarkable form in Victorian junior events, and is looked upon as a coming star in State and national events.
