MAY COME NORTH
A UCKLAND horses have a pretty fair show of pulling off the Wellington double Wei ling ton Steeplechase (first day) and Winter Hurdles (third day). The weights were announced recently. Beau Cavalier heads the Steeplechase with 11.13, with Glendowie eight pounds below. The former may carry his weight better over the flat Trentham country. Glendowie has gone up 121 b. on what he carried when he won the Winter Steeplechase here three weeks ago, so that if started he will be well tried out. In the Winter Hurdles, Beau Cavalier has a stone more than he won with in the Great Northern Hurdles, and, as the conditions at Trentham would indicate that the task is not so difficult, he would appear to have a chance of scoring again over the sticks. It is not in his favour, however, that he is to contest the big steeplechase the first day. Auckland is well represented, and the two four-figure races may well go to Northerners. The halfdozen that appeal most in these two events at the present juncture are: Wellington Steeplechase, 3 X miles.— Beau Cavalier, Glendowie, Kawini, Brigadier Bill, Maunga and Pouri. Winter Hurdles, 2* miles.—-Red Fuchsia, Perle de Ueon-Gaze bracket, Beau Cavalier, Aberfeldy, Mia Bella and Kaikahu.
