LYRIC
“BODY AND SOUL” “Body and Soul,” based on Katharine Newlin “The Branding Iron,” a story of the Swiss Alps, will be shown to-night at the Lyric Theatre. The branding episode begins at the home of the jealousy-crazed doctor, who makes up his mind that he will burn his seal upon the bare body of his young and beautiful wife in order that all other men will recognise her as his property. He drags her from bed in her nightclothes, and takes her to the little room where he has a forge. After tying her with a rope, he forces her to watch his maniacal preparation for his terrible deed. The seal, now heated to a white heat, is pressed firmly against her quivering body as she screams with agonised terror, and makes futile efforts to escape. Lionel Barrymore, famous on screen and stage, plays the role of the derelict physician, while Aileen Pringle has the role of the beautiful and innocent Hilda. A second attraction will be provided in “That Certain Thing,” starring Viola Dana and Ralph Graves, a lesson in love’s funny side, and a treatise on how to clean up a fortune through matrimony.
