EDEN PA SITES "I name you Tainui in memory of my ancestral canoe, and the canoe of my people!” With these words Princess Te Puea Herangi, the well-known Waikato chieftainess, planted a puriri tree this morning on historic Maunga-whau, as Mount Eden is known to the Maori people. The Princess was welcomed by Mr. E. H. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden and chairman of the Domain Board, also Mr. A. M. Bryden, deputy-Mayo». Mr. W. Woolley, and Mr. Gray, town clerk. Te Akarana Maori Association was represented by Mr. George Graham and Mr. J. B. Kennedy. Te Puea much preferred the eastern site, which is larger, and is in keeping with the old Maori character of looking toward the rising sun. The western site is smaller, and has no marae or village square. Mr. Potter, who is also a member of the Hospital Board, extended an invitation to the chieftainess to visit the hospital, which, lie thought would be of interest to Te Puea. in view of her social work and the hospital which she proposes to erect at Ngaruawahia. The visit will be made next week, th e Princess also promising to bring her band of poi dancers to dance before the patients, if this could be arranged.
