OBJECTION TO CABARET LOAN FOR DESTRUCTOR Authority was received by the Takapuna Borough Council at a meeting last evening to rais© by loan its proportion of the cost of the destructor for the North Shore boroughs. The Bayswater- Belmon t Progressive Association is asking the Harbour Board to erect a stone wall or a wooden fence along the western edge of the ferry tea reclamation at Bayswater. Permission to plant both sides of the concrete roadway is being sought and a request made that, the footpath be tarred. A similar request has been made by the BayswaterBelmont Women’s Society. The Mayor and two councillors are to urge the necessity of the breakwind at the next meeting of the board. An offer to erect a practice room if materials are supplied was received from, the Municipal Band. The question was referred to the band committee for a report. “It would pay us far better to support the North Shore Expansion League,” said Cr. J. E. Close .when a letter asking for a contribution of £25 toward the cost of an advertising booklet was received from the Auckland Advertising Club. The council has no fund from which this sum might be forthcoming. The bridge in Wairau Road over the creek has been declared unsafe for heavy traffic. The attention of the police is being called to the number of fires recently in unoccupied houses. Four houses have been damaged during the last two months. A demonstration of fire-fighting will be given by the volunteer fire brigade at Bayswater on Saturday afternoon. The tender by Mr. Bradley of £9B 5s for completing the Taharoto Park cricket ground was accepted. Tenders are to be called for the sewerage outfall at Blackrock, the plans having been approved by the GovernorGeneral in Council. The resignation of Mr. E. H. Day from his position as building, plumbing, drainage and sanitary inspector, was accepted. Mr. Day has been appointed sanitary inspector for the City Council from August 1.
