MUNICIPAL MILK SUPPLY
LABOUR COUNCIL FAVOURS SCHEME ACTION IN CHRISTCHURCH (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Christchurch City Council last evening, the following motion, proposed by Mr. Clyde Carr, chairman of the Milk Supply Committee, was carried: “That the city solicitor be instructed to prepare a Bill for presentation to Parliament providing for the municipalisation of the milk supply of the City of Christchurch.” This action was supported by the Labour majority of the council, but was opposed by the representatives of the Citizens’ Association. It is said by opponents of the scheme that if it is adopted it will mean ruin to scores of small dairy farmers at present supplying the city, and the proposal is regarded as purely a socialistic scheme on the part of the adherents of Labour.
